Borough Council · Meeting of September 22, 2026

LYNN — Christopher Kelly sworn in as Lynn's new police chief, succeeding Christopher P. Reddy after 41 years. Mayor Jared Nicholson administered the oath in City Council chambers before Council President Coco Allen-Sug, Vice President Fred Hogan, Essex County Sheriff Kevin Coppinger, District Attorney Paul Tucker and state Representative Sean Reed.

Kelly, a 30-year department veteran, said "trust cannot be assumed, it has to be earned," and pledged to give officers "the resources, the support, the technology" to do their jobs safely. Four supervisors were promoted alongside him: Bill Sharp to Deputy Chief of Operations, Rick Connick to captain over Professional Standards, Jeffrey Asatuno to lieutenant, and Ryan Newlong to sergeant on overnight patrol. No council votes were taken; the session was ceremonial.
