Lynn Disability Commission reelects its leadership and preps a six-language ADA accessibility survey, while questioning its own authority. Chairperson Rochelle Waterman-Williams, Vice Chair Tracy Lindsay and new Clerk Patricia Capano were returned or elected unopposed. Nick Alonso of the Department of Public Health said consultant KMA will finish building audits by month's end and launch a public survey next week, open through November, after the city secured second-phase funding to add parking lots and parks to the review.
Members voted 5-0 to add "engagement and outreach" as a recurring agenda item rather than form a subcommittee, citing time constraints. The sharpest exchange came over Two Life Communities' senior-housing project on Linfield Street, whose four accessibility variances, including an eight-inch sink depth against a six-and-a-half-inch requirement, were approved by the state Architectural Access Board without commission input. "They already have investors and millions going in and they're still seeking free money to get sinks," member Danny Acosta said, while acknowledging he was "not opposed" to the request.
