Lynn committee refers police license-plate camera program to a public hearing after officer leave. The Public Safety and Criminal Justice Committee voted 5-0 Tuesday to send Police Chief Reddy's Flock automated license-plate reader program to a City Council public hearing set for October 13. Reddy, who is retiring, told councilors the department placed two officers on paid administrative leave after a July audit flagged anomalies in camera searches, cut data retention from 30 days to seven, and restricted system access to 23 lieutenants and above, down from department-wide use.
Councilor Avery pressed Reddy on "how do we regain the public trust to our residents." Reddy answered, "We embrace accountability." Deputy Chief Kelly, Reddy's likely successor, said Flock evidence helped generate leads in four homicides and a fatal hit-and-run on Western Avenue.
