Select Board · Meeting of May 12, 2026
Lynn City Council voted 11-0 to adopt a resolution condemning federal immigration enforcement actions. Councilor Lapierre read the measure, submitted by Marilyn Regan of the Massachusetts North Shore Resolutions Project, after a Lynn school employee won a stay of deportation this week following a community vigil. Councilor McLean's amendment swapped "slaves" and "slavery" for "enslaved people" and "enslavement" in the text.
Mayor Jared Nicholson separately submitted a $577,017,037 fiscal 2027 budget, set down for a public hearing June 9. The council also approved disposal of surplus DPW, police, fire and ISD vehicles and a $792,913 transfer from the Reserve Fund to DPW Sanitation. "The budget adds no new positions," Nicholson's letter said.
