Lynn School Committee advances new seclusion, restraint and vocational admissions policies amid Tracy School closure pushback. The Policy Subcommittee, chaired by Dr. Brenda Ortiz-McGrath with members Pena and Satterwhite, voted 3-0 to recommend new policy JKAA aligning timeout, seclusion and physical restraint rules with 2025 state regulatory changes, and voted 3-0 to send the annual LVTI admissions policy, JFAA, back for clarifying lottery language.
The full committee later adopted both, 7-0. Compliance Officer Charlie Gallo reported the district's bullying-complaint substantiation rate held at 43 percent and school-based arrests stayed at three to four annually. Fourth-grade teacher Angela Oza again challenged the district's plan to close Tracy Elementary and expand Callahan School, saying "Lynn wants to close and not rebuild Tracy." LEAP for Education's Kayla Dorst said the nonprofit's Dream More program has served 668 students over six years, investing more than $340,000 in FY26 grants and donations.
