LYNN — The Lynn School Committee accepted a $435,000 state grant to expand dual language instruction into Thurgood Marshall Middle School. Superintendent Cohen led a review of committee communication protocols, telling members "we're going to respond from here so that the member understands that it's now being addressed." Members voted 7-0 to approve a $2,900-per-student marine biology trip to Woods Hole for 36 students, a program donor Saul Pinnell has subsidized by roughly $500,000 over five years. The committee also accepted about $10,000 in book donations for a new library at the City Arts and Sciences Academy, plus $250 gifts each from Menino Construction and William Kamet.

Pre-kindergarten enrollment grew 52 percent this year, to 693 seats. In executive session, members voted to extend cost-of-living adjustments from collective bargaining agreements to non-union personnel.
