Select Board · Meeting of April 28, 2026

LYNN — The Lynn City Council confirmed Thomas O'Shea to the water and sewer commission and pressed MassDOT over bike lane safety. O'Shea beat finalists Jennifer James and Frances Harrington on a 7-3 roll call vote after the Council Appointment Subcommittee, chaired by Natasha Medri-Madre, split in executive session. Separately, the council confirmed Andrew Mattel to the Board of Assessors and approved roughly $2.96 million in FY26 transfers, including $2,396,622 for MassDOT roadway safety work.

The sharpest exchange came over the $11.8 million Northern Strand Extension bike lane project: Councilor Fred Hogan complained about barrels sitting "through the whole winter," and MassDOT engineer Peter Trimitozzi admitted an ambulance could not get past a stopped bus "by some of the bus stops." Councilor LaPierre said Market Street businesses have lost "at least 50 percent" of revenue and relayed a senior's fear of being trapped during a fire.
