Lynn School Committee unanimously backs a $30,000 grant-funded mural by immigrant students, then absorbs hours of budget backlash. The Welcome Center and RAW Artworks won 7-0 approval for "Murals of Belonging," a New England Foundation for the Arts-funded project pairing 20 newcomer youth with muralists to paint a building facing the Lynn Way at no cost to the district. Separately, guidance counselor Matt Wilkins told the committee Lynn English High School's caseloads could hit 269 students per counselor next year while the newer CASA school keeps a 184-student average, calling the disparity inequitable.
Teacher Michael J. Curley invoked a campaign-forum pledge to "cut student-facing staff last." Lynn Teachers Union president Phil O'Connor confirmed the $7 million-shortfall budget won't reach a vote until an April 9 public hearing.
