School Committee · Meeting of April 9, 2026
Lynn School Committee approved a fiscal 2027 budget that closes a $7 million funding gap after dozens of parents, students and clinicians urged members to spare student-facing jobs. Clinician Amanda DiCiaro told the panel suicidal ideation reports have "more than doubled" in three years, to over 25 incidents monthly, among 500-plus documented safety incidents districtwide. A motion by Member Castellanos to cut a $99,374 Transportation Assistant Database Manager position passed 4-3 over objections from Member Gately, who called it "a slap in her face for all her hard work"; the savings were then transferred 5-1 to a teacher line.
The committee also voted 7-0 to submit MSBA statements of interest for additions at Julia F. Callahan Elementary and for the aging Tracy Elementary School, due by April 17. The final FY27 budget passed 7-0.
